With the pains and frustrations of 2009 behind us, people are looking at 2010 with an attitude of cautious optimism. RV manufacturers and dealers are desperate to make 2010 a better year and it starts now. The bulk of the big RV shows are in January, February, and March and they are the best way to find the RV that is right for you and your family. RV shows offer the most convenient, hands-on way to compare different styles and brands side by side. To get the most out of attending a show, however, you need to be prepared.
First, find a show you want to attend. One of the best ways is to check RV magazines. A single issue may have numerous shows advertised. Be prepared to travel if you want to go to a big show that is not in your area. The bigger the show, the more RVs you can look at, the better chance you have of finding the perfect RV.
Second, understand that you will spend a lot of time at the show and receive a ton of information. Some of the largest shows can take more than one day to get through, especially if you attend any of the workshops or demonstrations that are offered. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing for the weather (if it is an outdoor show) and comfortable walking shoes. If you have young children that will be attending with you it is a good idea to bring snacks and have them carry a small backpack with items to keep them entertained. Of course a stroller is a must as are frequent breaks to rest.
Plan your attack. As soon as you arrive at the show, get a map. Use the map to plan a route through the show that takes you to the RVs and displays that you want to view. If you are looking for a 5th wheel, dont take a lot of time looking at motorized units. Also be on the lookout for a vendor that is giving out plastic bags so that you have something to carry all of the literature youll be collecting. For the bigger shows it might be a good idea to bring an empty backpack or other canvas bag with sturdier handles. It could weigh quite a bit by the end of the day. If you have the ability you could video some of the RVs that most interest you. Not only do you get to view the RV again, but you can comment on the features that you like or dislike about each one.
Check the schedule of events early so you know what workshops and demonstrations are going on and when. Keep in mind that the some workshops may be repeated at other times and some may only run once. Frequently there are some entertainment events as well, both for adults and kids.
Lastly, have fun! Its a show. All of the vendors go to great lengths to make a good experience. Buying an RV is a big decision but it shouldnt be a stressful one if you have done your research and found the one that best meets your needs. The RV show should be about planning future vacations with your family in your new RV. Happy Trails!
